Q:1 Will hearing aids actually improve my ability to hear?

While your hearing aids will not restore your hearing to normal, they should allow you to listen with less effort and improve your hearing in most environments.

Q:2 What kinds of hearing aids are best for me?

The nature and severity of your hearing loss will play a large role in determining what hearing aid is most appropriate for you. The audiologist has extensive training in fitting hearing aids, and will explain all of your options during your hearing evaluation.

Q:3 Do I have to buy two hearing aids?

If you have hearing loss in both ears, we almost always recommend a hearing aid for each ear. Using binaural hearing aids will help maximize your benefit from hearing aids and make you a more effective listener. For a more detailed explanation of why two hearing aids are preferable, see Two Ears are Better than One.

Q:4 What's the return policy or trial period on the hearing aids and what fees will I encounter if I return the hearing aids?

Total Hearing Solutions offers a 30 day satisfaction period. This 30 day satisfaction period begins on the day your hearing aids are dispensed. You will pay for the hearing aids in full prior to the hearing aid dispense, but you have 30 days to return them should you change your mind. You would be reimbursed the total amount minus a $150 per ear non-refundable dispensing fee.

Q:5 What kind of post-fitting programs do you provide?

We will set up a 2 week post-fitting check and an end of trial period post-fitting check to ensure that you are happy with your instruments and how they are functioning. After your initial trial period is complete, we advise coming in to the office every 3 months for a hearing aid clean and check during our walk-in clean and check hours and to return as needed for program adjustments. As a part of the Complete Hearing Health Care© program, we will provide you with an annual hearing screen to monitor your hearing loss.

Q:6 Can I expect to come back for minor alterations?

Yes! Everyone perceives sound differently and hearing demands are different between patients. In order to fine tune the hearing aids you will return for your 2 and 4 week post-fitting checks following your hearing aid dispense. Some patients need further appointments to continue fine-tuning their hearing aids.

Q:7 Do you provide a written contract or purchase agreement?

Yes. We provide you with a written purchase agreement when you place your hearing aid order and pay 1/2 of the hearing aid cost. This purchase agreement indicates the hearing aid you are purchasing and the cost as well as explains the Complete Hearing Health Care© plan and the 30 day satisfaction period.

Q:8 Is there a warranty and who honors the warranty?

You will receive a 2 year manufacturers repair warranty and a 2 year manufacturer's loss/damage warranty. This warranty is attached to the hearing aids, not the office where you purchased the hearing aids, and therefore if you relocate within that warranty period the warranty remains valid.

Q:9 What is the average life span of a hearing aid?

Average life of any hearing aid is 5 years.

Q:10 What happens if my hearing aid stops working?

If your hearing aid stops working, check for wax and change the battery. If it is still not working, you can bring it in during our clean and check hours at the Northside office for the audiology assistant to look at it. If we can't get it to function, we will send it to the manufacturer for repair.

Q:11 Do you repair them or does someone else and will it cost to have it repaired?

In the event that your hearing aid needs a repair that cannot be fixed in the office, it will be sent to the manufacturer. If it is under a repair warranty, there will be no cost to you (unless it is cracked or crushed at which time there will be a recase charge). If it is not under warranty there is a repair charge which will repair the hearing aid and add a repair warranty back onto the hearing aid. Please note that once hearing aids are over 5 years old, they are repaired at a higher cost and with a shorter repair warranty.

Q:12 What happens if my hearing changes?

If your hearing thresholds should change, your digital hearing aids should be able to be adjusted for your change in hearing.

Q:13 Does my insurance cover hearing aids?

Medicare does not cover hearing aids. In general, most insurance does not cover hearing aids. However, it is always a good idea to speak with your insurance company to determine if you have hearing aid benefits and who can provide hearing aids to you if you do have coverage.
